(When "Just Do Your Kegels" Has Already Failed You?)
From: Kim Vopni, "The Vagina Coach"
Let me know if this sounds familiar...
You're standing in the grocery store and you feel a sneeze coming on. Your heart rate spikes. You cross your legs, brace yourself, squeeze — and hope.
Or you're laughing with your friends and suddenly you're not laughing anymore, because you're trying to hold everything together while pretending nothing is happening.
Or you've started quietly planning every outing around bathrooms. Every road trip. Every dinner reservation. Every workout class.
Or maybe you've stopped doing certain things altogether. Running. Lifting weights. Jumping. Playing with your kids or grandkids. Anything that feels like a gamble.
And through all of it, you've been told the same thing:
"Just do your Kegels."
You've done your Kegels. You've done them faithfully, consistently, for weeks or months or maybe years.
And you're still here.
"If I Can't Fix This With Kegels... Does Anything Even Work?"
That's the question I hear from women every single day. And it's the question that breaks my heart — not because the answer is no, but because the answer is yes, and nobody is telling women what it actually is.
Here's the truth most doctors won't say out loud:
Kegels are not the complete answer for most women.
In fact, for a significant percentage of women, doing more Kegels is actively making things worse. Because the problem isn't always a weak pelvic floor. Sometimes it's an overactive, tense, or uncoordinated one — and squeezing harder only adds to the dysfunction.
The real problem is that women have been given one tool — squeeze more — for a much more complex situation.
And that one tool has been failing them for decades.
As We Kept Learning, and Researching, and Working With Real Women...
A pattern emerged.
The women who made the most progress — who stopped leaking, who eliminated urgency, who reversed prolapse symptoms, who got their lives back — weren't the ones who did more Kegels.
They were the ones who understood their pelvic floor as part of a whole system.
They understood how breathing affects pelvic floor pressure. How posture loads or protects the pelvic floor. How the way you go to the toilet can make symptoms better or dramatically worse. How hormones, stress, footwear, and movement patterns all play a role.
They understood that the pelvic floor doesn't work in isolation — it works as part of the Core Four: the pelvic floor, the diaphragm, the deep abdominals, and the spine stabilizers, all coordinating together with every breath and every movement.
And once they understood that — everything changed.
It Doesn't Matter If You've Struggled For Months — Or Decades
I've worked with women who've been dealing with leaking for 17 years and thought it was just their new normal.
I've worked with women in their 30s who were told "this is what happens after kids" by doctors who offered nothing further.
I've worked with women in their 60s who were on the waiting list for surgery and decided to try something different first.
The timeline doesn't matter. The age doesn't matter.
What matters is having the right information — and a clear path to act on it.
That's exactly what this book gives you.

Part 1 — Start Here: Common Is Not The Same As Normal
Why "common" got confused with "normal" — around 40% of women report at least one pelvic floor problem, and why that number is exactly why nobody talks about it (page 13)
Why Kegels alone fall short: the research shows most women are doing them incorrectly, and the one thing they never train that makes all the difference (page 14)
Put a name to it: stress incontinence, urgency, urinary frequency, overactive bladder, prolapse, anal incontinence — defined in plain language so you finally know what you're dealing with (page 15)
The tight pelvic floor nobody warns you about — and why, if months of squeezing made things worse, this is probably the reason (page 17)
Low back pain? Over 95% of women with it have some form of pelvic floor dysfunction — here's the connection (page 17)
Part 2 — Your Pelvic Floor: What It Is And What It Does
The five jobs your pelvic floor does every day — it's not just about "holding things in" (page 22)
The Core Four: why your pelvic floor is only one piece of a four-part system — and what happens when the other three aren't doing their job (page 24)
Pressure, and how we manage it: the everyday habits quietly adding load to your pelvic floor all day long (page 26)
Weak, tense or uncoordinated? Three very different problems that get the same "do your Kegels" advice — and why that's the mistake (page 28)
Your cycle, your hormones, and what changes at menopause — and what to do differently at each stage (page 32)
Part 3 — What You Are Dealing With
Stress incontinence vs. urgency vs. overactive bladder — and why the distinction matters for how you treat it (page 37)
Urinary frequency: what is actually normal — and the trained behaviour that's making you go more than you need to (page 40)
Prolapse, what it actually is — how common it really is, living with it, and where pessaries and surgery fit (page 42)
A pelvic floor that is too tight, and what to do about tension — including sex, pain and sensation (page 45)
Anal leaks and urgency — the symptom nobody talks about, and when to see a provider (page 49)
Part 4 — The Foundations
Hydration and bladder irritants: the drinks and foods quietly driving urgency — and what to swap them for (page 57)
Bowels, constipation, and how to use a toilet — the toilet habits silently worsening your symptoms, and the simple adjustments that bring immediate relief (page 60)
Posture and alignment: how the way you stand, sit and move loads or protects your pelvic floor (page 64)
Talk to your bladder and ride out the urge — the retraining that stops the panic-dash to the bathroom (page 66)
Managing pressure when you lift, cough, sneeze or laugh (page 69)
Part 5 — The Work
Retrain before you train: the order you do this in matters more than how hard you work at it — the step most women skip entirely (page 73)
Releasing tension first: three ways to let go of an overactive pelvic floor before you ever think about strengthening it (page 74)
The Core Breath: the foundation exercise every workout is built on — and how to find the cue that finally makes you feel it (page 78)
Adding the core breath to movement, then the four workouts: Foundation, Build, Strength, Power — with modifications for your symptoms and for training with prolapse (page 82)
Your first twelve weeks, mapped out — what to do in week one, when to add load, and what progress actually looks like (page 97)
Part 6 — Keeping It
Maintain and thrive — how to keep the results without it becoming another thing on the to-do list (page 101)
When it is not going to plan — what to check, and what it means (page 102)
How to build your pelvic health team — and the single most important appointment to book if you haven't already (page 104)
Questions I get asked constantly — including the honest answer to "is it too late for me?" (page 106)

From: Kim Vopni, "The Vagina Coach" Vancouver, Canada
My interest in pelvic health started earlier than most.
In sixth grade, I watched a video about childbirth in school. It fascinated me.
It also scared me. I went home and asked my mom every question I could think of.
She was an operating room nurse, so she gave me straight answers.
She told me about her own births — episiotomies with both deliveries. That conversation lodged somewhere in my mind and didn't leave.
Years later, when I was in university, my mom had a hysterectomy.
It was the solution offered for her heavy bleeding.
She accepted it as what needed to happen.
Several years after that, she had surgery for incontinence.
I think about those moments now with everything I know, and I wonder:
What if she'd had access to more complete information?
What if someone had told her about pelvic floor physiotherapy, or about hormones, or that hysterectomy increases the risk of incontinence and prolapse?
Would she have needed those surgeries — or chosen them?
I don't know.
That Question Changed The Direction Of My Life
When my sister-in-law gave birth in 2002 and invited my husband and me into the room, something shifted in me.
Watching a woman birth her baby — supported, informed, surrounded by midwives — changed how I understood what the female body was capable of.
I became pregnant the following year.
I started researching everything I could about preparing the body for birth. A midwife mentioned a device called the EPI-NO.
I researched it, bought it, and used it to prepare for my births.
That decision is what led me to where I am today.
I contacted the manufacturer and asked to become their Canadian distributor. I got recertified as a personal trainer. I collaborated with and learned from pelvic health professionals.
I started talking to my personal training clients about pelvic health and leading in-person workshops and events. Women showed up hungry for information nobody had ever given them.
In 2009 I founded Kegels & Cocktails.
In 2011 I co-founded Bellies Inc.
In 2013 I launched a professional-level course to train other fitness professionals in how to work with women with core and pelvic floor challenges.
I became a certified Hypopressive Method trainer, a Restorative Exercise Specialist, an osteoporosis-certified trainer and a Certified Menopause Support Practitioner.
And through all of it — working with thousands of women over 20+ years — I kept hearing the same things.
"I didn't know this was a problem until it was already affecting everything."
"My doctor just told me to do Kegels and sent me home."
"I thought this was just what getting older felt like."
"Nobody told me this was preventable."
Nobody gave them the manual. This book is that manual — the answer I wish every one of those women had been given sooner.
It is straight-talking and built for real life — not a medical textbook, not a one-size-fits-all exercise plan.
A complete, honest guide to understanding your pelvic floor and taking back control of your body.

"I've Tried Pelvic Floor Exercises Before — And They Didn't Work"
And that's exactly why you need this book.
If exercises alone haven't worked...
It's almost certainly because you were doing the wrong type for your specific situation...
Or doing them incorrectly (the research shows the majority of women are)...
Or missing the other half of the equation — the pressure management, the breathing, the posture, and the lifestyle factors that determine whether exercises work or don't.
This book shows you the complete picture — not just the exercises.
Oh, And In Case You're Wondering...
There Is NO CATCH!
I am giving you this book for free. All you pay for is shipping. That's it!
You pay the shipping. You get the book. That's it.
So why am I doing this?
A few honest reasons:
Because I believe every woman deserves this information. My mother didn't have it. I didn't have it either, and figured out a lot on my own along the way — in part because of my own struggles. Millions of women don't have this information and need it. I've spent over 20 years trying to change that, and this book is the most accessible thing I've ever created.
Because once you read it, you'll know what's possible — and what to do to prevent or overcome your challenges. And when you're ready to go deeper — whether that's our programs, or simply going to a good pelvic health physiotherapist — you'll know exactly what to do.
Because I've seen what happens when women don't have this. They suffer in silence for years. They accept surgery as inevitable. They stop exercising, stop socializing, stop feeling like themselves. That doesn't have to be your story.
All I ask is that you cover the cost of shipping so I can get this into your hands.
